The Cash Cow

by thegooddoctor in 100 Words

The Hendersons called her the cash cow. She ate grass and shit out money. Real American green. Tens, twenties, hundreds all came out in equal proportions, with unique serial numbers and the proper security features of United States currency. The cow became something of an attraction and people looked upon her as a miracle cow, of which many neighbors were forced to admit they were covetous.

No one understood how it worked but money being the root of all evil, the Hendersons didn’t pause to consider the mechanics. They immediately slaughtered the cow and ground her up for chicken feed.

Something Wicked

by thegooddoctor in 100 Words

She had only one weakness, but as with others of tremendous power–Achilles, Samson–it would be that weakness that would be her undoing.

Her body was a desiccated husk, a mere formality, an inaudible whisper. Her shadow had more of an essence. It was the dryness of her corporeal form that allowed her to create her greatest feats of magic. It was the dryness of her soul that led her to evil.

by thegooddoctor in 100 Words

As with most children’s songs, this one possessed a sinister undertone that was shockingly obvious in hindsight.

“Evil hides in a darling disguise.”

We all learned that mantra to be true. The Japanese had flooded our airwaves and toy stores with the cloyingly cute Kuchiwon, fluffy characters we thought to be mostly harmless. We’d already lived through the Pokemon, Hello Kitty, and Dijimon phenomena after all.

The Kuchiwon were different. One night, they suddenly came to life and started killing everyone in a most brutal manner.

Perhaps we should have taken heed when the theme song was translated into English.

Deliver Us From Evil

by thegooddoctor in 100 Words

We are a lost people, driven from our homes. We have nothing except our myths. The myths remind us who we are and teach us about good and evil.

Evil men take their hearts and hide them in some secret place. If you can find their heart and destroy it, you destroy that evil.

From birth, a few of us are trained as hunters. We are no longer of the people. We are separate. We are nothing. Our names are written on a piece of parchment, and burnt without ever being uttered.

Only by becoming evil, can we destroy evil.
