Why LOTR Sucks: The Art Of The Rom Com

What I love most about romantic comedies is the way people fall in love. Sometimes, two people will hate each other the entire movie, but you know they are about to fall in love because one of the them will look at the other meaningfully. How do you know it’s meaningful? You just know.

Eowyn has just fallen in love with Aragorn. She didn’t say anything but we know.

Peter Jackson also loves romantic comedies.

And while we are on the subject of comedy, let me point out that what passes for comedy in the Two Towers is the fact that Eowyn’s cooking is very bad. What a classic moment when Aragorn pretends for her sake to like her stew. I haven’t laughed so hard since I watched the Beverly Hillbillies on TV Land the other night.
