This Is Happening

One time, I was foolish enough to do a live blog of my rewatch of the entire Lord of the Rings film trilogy. I nearly died.
It’s taken me several years to work up the courage to do it again. But with the second Hobbit movie in theaters, I figured if I was ever going to do this, now was the time. So here goes.
If you want to follow along on Twitter, use the hashtag #hobbitrewatch. You’ll get to enjoy a lot of my twitter venting as I suffer through this inane project. But somebody has to do it, right?
Here’s the deal: I hated the LOTR trilogy, and I spent many, many hours detailing exactly what was wrong with those films and why they sucked balls. I will be doing the same thing with the first Hobbit movie. This is not a matter of opinion. Nor will I be comparing the movie to the book. This is entirely about judging the movie objectively on its own merits. How does it work as a film, and how does it fail? And what in the name of all that is holy in this world was Peter Jackson thinking with that damned rabbit sled???
If I recall correctly, PJ learned from the trilogy and there were very few, if any, slow motion closeups of people crying in this film. But I have a feeling there were still plenty of montages. So I’m not sure exactly what I’ll be keeping score of this time. But that’s part of the fun of the journey, right? The unexpected.
Here goes.
