This Might Be An Infinite Jest All Right

Some of you probably know me from my live blogging of The Lord of the Rings movies. You may also be aware of my 24-hour speed read of Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol.

Obviously, I’m a masochist who loves to punish himself. And that brings me to my next experiment. I will be live blogging along as I read David Foster Wallace’s Infinite Jest. It’s something I’ve been plotting for several years, and what with forced quarantine and no work, I figured why not now?

While I expect that unlike the work of Peter Jackson and Dan Brown, Infinite Jest possesses some literary value, I have also heard that it is an extremely long, dense, and complicated book, up there with Ulysses in terms of difficulty.

Well I say: bring it on! This experience can’t be any worse than watching Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, right? Because if it is, I may have to head to a Florida beach in hopes of catching Covid-19.

I’m not setting any rules or time limit this time. However long it takes is how long it takes. I may finish, or I may not. All I can promise you is I will try.

Here we go.
