Why I Hate Peter Jackson: No Words

I wish I could describe to you what was wrong with the scene where Bilbo joins up with the dwarves. Yet there aren’t any specific elements I can point to that explain why I hated it with so much venom. It just felt so completely wrong.

I guess it’s a matter of getting Bilbo’s character all wrong. And the cheesiness of watching Bilbo run through the Shire carrying his contract with that stupid grin on his face. Or shouting that he’s going on an adventure. This kind of scene is a great example of how Peter Jackson likes to rely on grand actions that look good in trailers rather than building towards confrontations and key moments through character and plot development.

And don’t get me started on the exchange of gold after they wagered on whether Bilbo would show. Talk about cliched!

We also get another one of Peter Jackson’s patented montages of New Zealand scenery. They always look gorgeous though.
