Why I Hate Peter Jackson: Bilbo

Full Disclosure: The Hobbit is my favorite book of all time. Bilbo Baggins is my favorite character in all of Tolkien. I believe there’s some kind of transitive property of mathematics that implies Bilbo is therefore one of my characters in all of literature.

After four minutes with young movie Bilbo, I’m fairly disappointed. Book Bilbo is polite, innocent, cheerful, and, although he is frightened by adventure and wants no part in one, still too polite to go slamming a door on a guest, especially a wizard.

Movie Bilbo has a big stick up his ass.
