The Spitting Image Of God

The Bible says that humanity was created in God’s image*. I have come up with a simple thought experiment to test whether this is likely or not.

If you were an alien visitor from a different universe created by a completely different God, which of the following would strike you as more likely to have been fashioned in the likeness of the Creator:

Height: 380 ft
Diameter: 26 ft
Longevity: 2,200 years
Nature: Peaceful and deliberate

or

Height: 8 ft
Diameter: 70 inches
Longevity: 100 years
Nature: Fickle and deceitful

It’s a nice thought. God up in Heaven, looking down at us, a regal Sequoia tree that weathers our tumultuous nature with an otherworldly patience. Add in the fact that Sequoia is the shortest word in the English language to contain all five vowels, and I can’t help but think that there’s something mystical about the name.

When you think about it, doesn’t it seem more likely that we created God in our image (I’m thinking of the Old Testament here) rather than vice versa?

I’m just saying.

*Well, it says man was created in God’s image, but I’m trying to forget how patriarchal our society has always been.
