Why Did You Like Pacific Rim?

I have never walked out on a movie in the theater. But I seriously started considering it about 30 minutes in to Pacific Rim. I came in with high expectations, because the movie had been getting serious buzz. I certainly wasn’t expecting significantly worse than a Transformers movie. The opening sequence was bad, but I assumed that because it had gotten so many good reviews, it must mean that as soon as we got all the exposition out of the way, the movie would get better.

Instead it got worse.

But because I’m tired of complaining about movies on here, I’m instead going to write a complete list of things I liked about the movie:

Ron Perlman. Even though his character served little real function, I loved every minute he was onscreen. Too bad he was only onscreen for like five minutes.

That Cute Bulldog. He was really cute.

The Visual Effects. The visual effects didn’t suck. I didn’t think they were that great, but compared to how awful the rest of the movie was, they didn’t make me nauseous or want to murder anyone.

That is all.

I would really like to hear from other people why they liked the movie, and on what basis they would consider it superior to the first two Transformers movies. I’m truly curious.

See, I like movies.

Okay, that’s all I’ve got today. I’m too depressed about all the awful movies I’ve seen recently, movies that I was expecting a lot from. Maybe if pressed, I’ll give a more thorough examination of what sucked about Pacific Rim, though I’m still so shell-shocked it may not happen for a while.
