Birdwatching In Beijing

Nothing makes my day like seeing woodpeckers in Beijing. And yesterday I saw two of them, flying from tree to tree along Jianguomen Wai.

Woodpeckers in Beijing? You probably think I’m insane. But this wasn’t a once-in-a-lifetime sighting. It’s the sixth time I’ve spotted a woodpecker inside the city, though it was the first time I’ve seen two together, in what my very unscientific mind has decided was a breeding pair.

I tried to get a photo but with only my iPhone on hand, it was impossible to get anything more than a blurry mess. However, just knowing that those woodpeckers are out there, eating grubs and keeping the trees of Beijing healthy, makes me happy that I live in this city.
