thanks to the ultimate dinosaur sleuth, @ryanqnorth it turns out this picture appeared on the cover of some book about fossil fuels by Marc Jaccard http://m0e.me/17j. everything is decidedly less awesome. some things are best when shrouded in mystery. like magic. or the opposite sex.
