General Guan Yu, a hero of the Three Kingdoms, is revered even today for his loyalty and strength of character. He was a fierce warrior, with the strength of 7 men, and wielded a blade taller than a horse. He is charged by the Buddha with protecting the Dharma.
Today, his descendents still burn candles for him in his hometown, nearly 2,000 years after his death.
