I recently came across some interesting breakthroughs in robot technology that will have awesome implications for my robot army.
First, this article from Discover details Microsoft’s TechEd event in Orlando, where the company’s Coding4Fun team demoed two life-sized boxing robots. I don’t need to tell any of you that when you are building an army of killer robots, the capacity for hand-to-hand combat is a must.
As explained in the article, “The six-foot tall bots are pneumatic, using pressurized gas for mechanical motion. In this case, the bots use two 2.5-gallon tanks of compressed air at 150 psi. Players control the bots with a Kinect for Windows-enabled PC that reads their movements and maps out their body through a series of dots displayed on screen. Once the player’s dots are in balance and the bots are gassed up, the punches can be thrown. Players deliver punches with a full arm stroke, once the bots are close enough. Leaning forward moves the robot forward on its four omni-directional wheels.”
The best part: they are giving away the code for free!
Now, all I have to do is combine the ability to box with powerful lasers and the capacity to cheat at Rock, Paper, Scissors, and my army will be ready to go. Because you definitely want your army of killer robots to be at least slightly evil.
That is all.
