Recap of CCC 5.0

CCC 5.0 Exhibition Hall at Portland Expo Center

Last week, The Hood Collective took part in our biggest event since we started the company in 2017, managing the entire social media and video for the 5th annual Cannabis Collaborative Conference. Happily, I can report after a hectic few weeks, the event went off without a hitch.

In addition to creating hundreds of unique posts featuring sponsors, exhibitors, and speakers, we recorded every keynote speaker and breakout session for the two days of the event. Special thanks to our video crew for their professionalism and attention to detail.

I also had the honor of speaking on the Managed Services to Support Core Competencies panel on Wednesday of the conference. I joined Trygve Waage, of Caputo Group, Joy Contreras of The Sweet Life, and Kara Bradford of Viridian Staffing, to speak about how cannabis companies can become more competitive by engaging third party services companies to handle tasks, such as human resources, distribution, and marketing, that fall outside of their core competencies.

Exhibitors got the chance to interact with attendees interested in the industry.

During the discussion, I shared our own personal story as it related to the CCC as a way to showcase the importance of proving your value to potential customers. Last year prior to the CCC, we contacted Mary Lou and offered our video services. She informed us that they already had someone who had volunteered to record all the sessions for free.

Obviously we can’t compete with free, so we asked for media passes instead. Over the two days of the conference, we interviewed Mary Lou, David Tran of Dope Magazine, Cameron Forni, and other industry leaders, as well as dozens of attendees and exhibitors.

Following the conference, it was hardly a surprise when the video person failed to deliver on his promises, and Mary Lou found that she had no recordings from the conference other than the interviews we had done. Fast forward 8 months, and as she was preparing for this year’s conference, we were the first people she called when looking for a reliable video provider.

The lesson: sometimes you have to go above and beyond to earn the trust of your potential clients in this industry. But if you can show that you are dependable and professional, it won’t be long before work starts coming your way.

It’s been a crazy first year, and we’re extremely excited for what 2019 has in store for us!
