That you can’t help but be impressed by DFW’s command of recovery culture and pharmaceuticals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That even if the reading of this novel is a chore, individual episodes like this one are transcendent, and speak to DFW’s facility for short story writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That for all his talent, it’s truly irksome that he’s chosen to make the narrative so disjointed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That sometimes showing off your tremendous vocabulary makes you into a dick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That in reality this is really two episodes that have been crammed together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That I’ll never look at tattoos the same way again after reading about Tiny Ewell’s obsession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That I’m wondering if we’ll ever get a good explanation of why this is set in a fictional version of North America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That I could go on, but unlike DFW, I’ve mastered the art of brevity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That actually I’m just plain lazy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
