My sister\u2019s 21 years older. She\u2019s 37. Often jokes I\u2019m the milkman\u2019s son.<\/p>\n

Nancy calls me Saint Nick, says I\u2019m too giving. Nicknames me dummkopf when I trip.<\/p>\n

I love her energy, when she jokes about my clothing or love of Debussy. She\u2019s an Elvis-loving newspaperwoman.<\/p>\n

Yet, the banter lacks that natural rhythm, that give-and-take. We didn\u2019t grow up playing or fighting together. But Nancy says age is arbitrary.<\/p>\n

I wonder if she feels self-consciousness. Especially when she calls me little brother, accentuating the words.<\/p>\n

I just banter. Call her sis. Joke that she\u2019s my secret mother.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s almost believable.<\/strong><\/p>\n
