He spent his time writing<br \/>\nhappy moments with his mother rather than spending time on a novel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMom, look. There\u2019s a red cardinal, your favorite bird.\u201d Sophia\u2019s mouth<br \/>\nsagged, expressionless.<\/p>\n<p>He sighed. \u201cMom, I\u2019ll be back tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mark left the room with a blank space in his journal.
