Billy had never been drunk before. That\u2019s why he didn\u2019t feel much pain.<\/p>\n

The stars above were bright.<\/p>\n

The runt of the family, he\u2019d run off from the farm and joined the ranchers. They had gone to the saloon.<\/p>\n

The strumpet at the bar had smiled at him. After his seventh whisky she winked. <\/p>\n

Billy felt like a man. He was somebody.<\/p>\n

\u201cMove over boy,\u201d the stranger said.<\/p>\n

Billy stood his ground. There were words, then the challenge.<\/p>\n

Outside, Billy got shot in the chest. Alone, he lay dying.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow they would bury him. A nobody in a nobody\u2019s grave.<\/strong><\/p>\n
