Today, he also winked.<\/p>\n<p>No one else gave her a second look. At school, girls called her names. Boys threw stones.<\/p>\n<p>She placed a chocolate bar on the belt. He rang in the price. She paid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot getting your favourite?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re out,\u201d she answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt won\u2019t happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She tore the wrapper off exiting the store. Took a mouthful. As she started walking home, a car pulled up behind her.
