Sailing To America

by thegooddoctor in 100 Words

There was something about the endless sky, gray and somber, and the ship’s surging through the dark swirling waters of the Atlantic, that prompted Macbeth to worry about the past. The witches. The blood. The trouble that followed. Was there a route to forgiveness? People went down on their knees, didn’t they? Could he hire someone to do it for him? He was still royalty, wasn’t he? But the breeze was so soothing, the trouble, so remote. Surely Scotland was a memory best forgotten. Besides, in the distance, he could almost see, shining like a pardon, the Statue of Liberty.

The Prince Of America

by thegooddoctor in 100 Words

The prince lives in a gated estate deep in the Hollywood Hills. The paparazzi shadow him everywhere, heralding his arrivals and departures. His office, now purely ceremonial, still holds the attention of the populace, many of whom harbor secret hope his family will one day be restored.

The prince, despite being quite eligible, has not settled on a bride. His handlers have broached the topic of a reality TV show, a graceless suggestion that has not sat well. Discretion has always been important to the prince.

Also, he likes to sleep around. The prince is a slut. A discrete slut.

The Responsible Monarch

by thegooddoctor in 100 Words

“The queen bee thinks nothing of sacrificing a hundred soldiers to protect the hive. The queen ant goes even further, commanding thousands of her drones to forfeit their lives, all in the name of the greater good. But what you’ll never see is the Queen putting herself in danger. The Queen knows that without her, there can be no society.”

“I know. As Queen of England, I’m an important symbol. But I don’t understand what that has to do with me having one more piece of sponge cake.”

“We don’t want Charles inheriting one day sooner than necessary, your Majesty.”

The Inner Sanctum

by thegooddoctor in 100 Words

Maggie, the newest serving girl, waited outside nervously.

“The Queen’s in one of her humours,” she was warned. “You best be careful.”

Maggie didn’t ask, but the veteran servant offered an explanation anyway. “Her alembic has disagreed with her constitution again.”

Once inside the Queen’s private chambers, Maggie had no time to be awed by the ornamentation. The Queen, in all her naked corpulence, was crouched over a chamber pot in the corner.

“So you’re the lucky subject who get’s to clean the Queen’s shit.”

Maggie smiled. She’d make a lot of money selling that shit on the black market.

The Junk Yard Kids

by thegooddoctor in 100 Words

Scottie and Claire loved the junk yard. To other folks it may have seemed a dire place to grow up, but for the two siblings, it was paradise.

Sure they had to worry about disease and oxidation and rats–man were there rats–but they had never known a moment of boredom their entire lives. Despite the other parents looking down at them, to the neighborhood children they were practically royalty.

Modesty had been instilled in them at an early age. Their parents made it very clear they were never to mention they were from the richest family in town.

The King’s Club

by thegooddoctor in 100 Words

The last thing you need when you’re a new king is the old king looking over your shoulder. Sure, a lot of kings die of old age, or are poisoned, but some simply abdicate because they’re ready for some peace and quiet.

And that’s why we opened the King’s Club, a top flight, luxury facility where former kings are treated as the royalty they used to be. When monarchs retire to the King’s Club, they are fully fed, dressed, washed and groomed. We do everything we can to keep them distracted.

And if that doesn’t work, there’s always poison, right?
