The Rights And Duties Of A Mother

The apartment is bare of any ornament.

Hannah had expected to find a shambles, hence the bucket of cleaning supplies in her hand. It’s difficult to believe he’s lived in this studio for the past six months. The only sign that she’s in the right place is a stack of his clothes in the corner, neatly folded. Otherwise, there’s none of his personal effects, even in the wastebasket.

Her grief isn’t prepared for this. She’s a mother, long accustomed to fixing the messes of her children. Finding that his last act had been to clean his room leaves her devastated.

Allison refused to budge. By all rights, she was entitled to stay in this booth as long as she liked. She’d bought a latte after all, never mind that had been well over three hours ago.

She looked around the coffee shop, hoping to find an empty table somewhere else she could direct the interlopers. They were in the midst of the lunch rush, however, when all the students got out of classes. There really were no other options.

“I suppose we can share.” Allison grudgingly scooted over and made room for the happy couple.

Oh, how she hated them.

Callous Humans

An aged tiger was on the prowl. One night it caught a sheep. As it could not carry its prey, it tried to eat it there. The cows in the shed raised an alarm. The villagers gathered, pelting stones. The tiger ran away.

The villagers staged a protest, wanting the government to exterminate it. Experts were called in. The next day they shot the tiger. How callous are humans, I thought.

A tiger took a sheep, a sheep that was to be slaughtered the next day!

If animals could strike back for their rights, we all would be behind bars!
